REIKI (pronounced Ray-Key) is a very simple yet profound hands on healing technique rediscovered in the early 20th century by Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist and Scholar, and was used by him as a complementary therapy for the treatment of physical, emotional and mental diseases.
Reiki is a Japanese word which means Rei – universal, and Ki – Life Force. ‘Rei’ is the universal knowledge, present everywhere, ‘Ki’ is the energy that gives life to all living things and which can be activated for the purpose of healing.
Through the laying of hands on or over the body, Reiki allows your own body's natural healing capacity to function more strongly, and allows the body and its energetic systems to heal itself naturally, and to release unnecessary and non-beneficial influences on the system.
A Reiki treatment normally takes place in silence, and with your eyes closed. Just watch your thoughts and relax. The only items you need to remove are your shoes.
Benefits of Reiki
Reiki is one of the more widely known forms of healing which affects the flow of energy in the body. It is a valid system of healing, bringing universal love and compassion to any situation, to heal, strengthen and empower any individual.
- it is a safe natural therapy, assisting healing on all levels
- can help to promote personal growth and creative processes
- is a non-invasive therapy, the client remains fully clothed
- can benefit emotional and stress related conditions
What happens during a treatment?
Most treatments last about 45mins, and are carried out on a healing couch or chair. You will remain fully clothed while I place my hands on or above various areas of your body. These 'areas' are known as Chakras - places in the body where there is flow of energy. Reiki is subjective; you may experience sensations such as warmth, coldness or tingling etc, along with relaxation, as the body receives the life force energy and blockages are removed.
Immediately after treatment you may feel very relaxed and peaceful, or re-energised. It is beneficial to take some 'time out' after Reiki by engaging in an activity that maintains your feelings of relaxation and calm, eg by connecting with nature, thus enabling full integration of the Reiki healing energies.
